Monroe Clinic now offers radiation therapy to patients

MONROE — After months of construction, Monroe Clinic’s oncology department now occupies its new home on the lower level of the clinic building, accessible via its own entrance. 

In addition, the department is able to offer an important service for cancer patients, radiation therapy. 

Monroe Clinic’s radiation therapy is provided by a new, state-of-the-art linear accelerator. The oncology department’s new area also provides 10 new medical oncology treatment rooms, a private entrance and its registration desk.

In addition to the service, Monroe Clinic Oncology welcomes a new radiation oncologist to the team.

Dr. Sophia Edwards-Bennett earned her PhD in bioorganic chemistry at Georgia State University and her medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, NY. Dr. Edwards-Bennett completed her internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, NY and her residency in radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. In addition, Dr. Edwards-Bennett completed a post-graduate training program in cancer research and therapeutics at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
