MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Works:

Approved bills from Dane County Contracting for $123,900 for 8th/9th street sewer and water improvement; from Fehr-Graham and Associates for $4,400 for work on 8th/9th street project grant, $14,400 for 8th/9th street water and sewer construction observation, and $3,000 for 8th/9th street project soil management; and from Central State Signing for $3,200 for 8th/9th street detour.

Recommended to the council to approve a change order to contract with Dane County Contracting, LLC for additional test holes, removal of extra contaminated soil and re-sized water service lines on 8th/9th Street sanitary sewer and water improvements.

Approved 2010 MS4 compliance report to be submitted to DNR.

Reviewed quotes and authorized hiring Jeff Voegeli Landscaping, Inc., at a cost of $9,060 to replace a retaining wall near 16th Avenue and 18th Street.

Recommended to the council to approve an addendum to the agreement with Town and Country Engineering for the Lakeside Heights Lift Station Improvement Project to include the additional engineering design work and associated costs for the installation of curb and gutter in the Lakeside Heights area. The additional curb and gutter work would cost about $40,000.

Recommended to the council to revise a land acquisition offer in conjunction with 8th/9th Street project to compensate for additional tree removal. The city would pay about $400 for a pine tree, whose roots would be damaged from street reconstruction in the 1300 block of 9th Street. Al Gerber, engineering supervisor, reported the property owners were receptive to the additional property acquisition.

Recommended to the council to approve an agreement between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the City of Monroe for replacement of a bridge on the Badger State Trail. Under the agreement, the city would retain major maintenance of the bridge, and the DNR would maintain the trail surface on the bridge.

Reviewed quotes for soil borings for Lakeside Heights and 4th Avenue sanitary sewer projects and approved hiring CGC, Inc. to perform work at a cost of $4,200.

Authorized the Street Department to participate with DOT for 2011-2012 rock salt bid.

Reviewed quotes and authorized hiring Rufer and Son Excavating, Inc. for a 400-foot, stream bank improvement project on the city's west side.

Recommended to Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee an ordinance change specifying to where solid waste is transported by commercial disposal companies that operate within the city. Nate Klassy, speaking on behalf of Green County Solid Waste Transfer Station, explained the potential liability to the city without the change.

A review of information on a modular diagnostic information device was scratched from the agenda.
