MONROE - At a meeting Monday, Oct. 4, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved bills from MSA Professional Services for $6,688 for work on the city's storm water quality master plan; from Green Valley Disposal for $1,103 for August recycling; and from E & N Hughes Company for $47,764 for downtown streetscape improvements.

• Hired CRC, Concrete Raising Corporation, New Berlin, for concrete raising for 6th Avenue West bridge. The CRC quote for $15,016 is for time and materials. Al Gerber, city engineer supervisor, said the actual cost will depend on the number and size of the voids found under the concrete. The project will raise concrete pads leading to and from the bridge sidewalk, which have settled since installation.

• Authorized spending $6,735 to purchase replacement computer equipment, including a large network card, a printer, a laptop computer and four work station computers that were damaged by lightening Sept. 16. The cost is an estimate to cover what city insurance does not.

• Authorized a "double bag" trash collection on Thursday and Friday of the week following Thanksgiving, Nov. 25. Trash will not be collected on Nov. 25 or 26, because of the holiday. The system was used in 2009 and saved the city $2,000, according Tom Boll, city street department supervisor.

• Requested the street department and fire department work out a trash pick-up system for the new fire station on the west side of Monroe.

MONROE - At a meeting Monday, Oct. 4, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Approved a no-parking zone of about 35 feet on the south side of the 2000 block of 10th Street.

• Received a report on the 2010 Cheese Days Festival from Police Chief Fred Kelley. The police department received 76 calls for service during the three-day event, slightly more than during Cheese Days in 2008, according to Kelley. The police department spent a total of $400 less than in 2008.

MONROE - At a meeting Monday,Oct. 4, the City of Monroe Salary and Personnel Committee:

• Appointed Rob Jacobson as the interim Information technology director until the new city administrator can assume the duties. Jacobson is the technical services director for the Monroe Police Department and chairman of the city's Technology Advisory Committee.
