MONROE - On Tuesday, March 18, the Monroe City Council:
By a 9-0 vote, repealed and recreated section 9-2-23(A)2 of the Monroe City Code to allow pet owners to show prepayment of dog licensing and prepayment of a cat or dog rabies vaccination, rather than only the license or rabies certificate. The Green County Humane Society asked for the change to allow release of animals that do not have the actual license or rabies shot yet. A past incident required a humane society employee to accompany an animal to a veterinarian to receive its shot before it was allowed to be released. No one spoke at the public hearing.
Set a public hearing date of April 2, 2008, for an ordinance annexing territory referred to as the "Munz Property." A petition for direct annexation was filed with the city clerk Feb. 5, signed by Dorothy Munz, Judith D. Boisen and Tamera A. Stephens. The property is adjacent to the previously annexed Wal-Mart property. According to Mayor Ron Marsh, an agreement was made to allow annexation of the homestead property when Wal-Mart was approved. The property will be zoned R-1, single-family residence, and will be made part of Ward Nine. The ordinance was recommended and presented by the Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee.
By a unanimous vote, passed a resolution to vacate and discontinue a segment of "old Fourth Avenue West" no longer needed as a street right-of-way.
Approved claims in the amount of $665,737.63.
Approved upon recommendation of the Public Safety Committee, a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation walk to be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. May 17, 2008, within Twining Park.
Granted operator licenses to Nicole M. Lincicum, Ilir Abduli and Angela H. Livas; and an electrical contractor license to Richter Electric.
Alderman Charles Schuringa was absent.
