MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, June 6 the City of Monroe Common Council:
Heard from Pam Christopher, director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, concerning economic development confidentiality requirements.
Held a public hearing and approved unanimously to rezone property at 916 17th St. from medium density residential to general business district.
Approved a certified survey map for a car wash near 4th Ave. West and W. 8th St. The facility, once planned for the south side of W. 8th Street, has been moved to the north side in the same block.
Approved unanimously changes to a bank signatory with Talmer Bank and Trust.
Approved unanimously hiring Randy Strehlow as a replacement water department operator effective on or before July 2 at starting pay of $18.71 per hour.
Approved unanimously hiring Mark Scheppele as a replacement senior center custodian effective on June 11 at a starting pay of $15.09 per hour.
Approved unanimously hiring Renee Weaver as the Utility Budget & Finance Director effective on or before July 2 at a starting pay of $15.50 per hour.
Approved unanimously $4.5 million to cover regular bills.
Voted unanimously to deny a claim of $100 from John A. Schmitt for an alleged personal injury.
Voted unanimously to pay $600 for alleged damages caused by a city snowplow to a concrete hangar ramp owned by Steve Streff.
Voted unanimously to deny a claim for $2,900 from Monroe Rental Homes LLC for alleged damage to a private sewer lateral.
Approved Main Street Monroe Cars on the Square, June 8 and Aug. 3; Monroe Area Rebel Soccer Dribble Across Wisconsin fundraiser event, June 8; Monroe Balloon Rally, Inc. Monroe Balloon Rally June 15-16; and Colony Brands Monroe Badger Days, June 18.
Granted miscellaneous licenses.
Granted a temporary class "B" beer license in conjunction with an outdoor beer garden to Monroe Balloon Rally for June 15-16.
Approved an amendment to the Class B Liquor and beer license issued to Sinners, LLC to include a permanent outdoor beer garden, 40 by 25 feet.
Approved a temporary larger outdoor beer garden, 75 by 30 feet, for Sinners, LLC on July 6-8.
Recognized the retirement of K-9 Service Animal, Loki, and his seven years of service, and transferred ownership of Loki to his former handler Dan Maresch for the sum of $1. Loki came to work in Monroe November 2005.
Discussed the possibility of establishing an on-going task list, updated with recent actions taken by committees and the council, in an effort to maintain or revisit progress on projects. City Administrator Phil Rath said he would check into options to accomplish that program.
Noted alderman names needed to be updated on agendas.
Heard from Comptroller Bridget Schuchart about changes coming to the treasurer report format.
City Clerk Carol Stamm thanked her staff for their assistance at the recall election June 4.
City Attorney Rex Ewald presented training on open meetings, public records, Monroe ethics code and private interest in public contract training.
Mayor Bill Ross announced he would not be present at the Tuesday, June 19 meeting, and Council President Tyler Schultz would preside.

Reviewed alterations to a general development plan for the Northpass Planned Unit Development to accommodate a cell tower. The commission authorized Rex Ewald, city attorney, to make the necessary changes and send the PUD back for approval.
