MONROE - On June 6, Monroe Common Council:
Granted a temporary Class B fermented malt beverage license to Main Street Monroe in conjunction with Concerts on the Square, which began June 9 and will continue through Aug. 24.
Accepted a bid from Jeff Voegeli Landscaping for 1,600 feet of replacement work on city curb and gutter for $70,180. Director of Public Works Al Gerber recommended the offer be accepted. Work is currently scheduled to begin July 18 and be completed by the end of that month.
Awarded a bid contract to Rock Road Construction of Janesville for mill and overlay and reclamation project along 11th Street as well as 21st Street. The bid totaled just over $306,000. Gerber said work on 11th Street is expected to be done in July and in October for 21st Street.
Approved change order no. 2 for the 8th Street Project. Specification changes by the Department of Transportation changed design parameters for hot mix asphalt. "They basically have to put more oil into the mix for more longevity," Gerber said. The change order totaled an additional $20,937.
Authorized a donation to American Legion Zilmer-Riley Post No. 84 for $250 to subsidize the cost of decorating veterans' graves, the Memorial Day Parade and the following service at Greenwood Cemetery.
Denied a claim from resident Herschel Jackson Jr., who claimed he was owed compensation for an injury suffered on Dec. 21 when he slipped on a city sidewalk in the 1900 block of 12th Street. City Clerk Carol Stamm said state statutes dictate that municipalities are not responsible for sidewalk conditions unless the ice had been there for three weeks and the city had knowledge of its existence.
Approved a resolution granting a pay raise from $19.42 per hour to $19.56 for the position of Operator in Training-Wastewater Division. Water Utility Supervisor Mike Kennison said the wage was lower than that in comparable communities. Training takes roughly one year, Kennison said. Council also approved a pay increase of $13.92 to $14.34 for the position of Swimming Pool Manager.
Granted a special event permit to Main Street Monroe for Concerts on the Square from June 9 to the rain date of Sept. 8.
Authorized the 2016 compliance maintenance annual report to be submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Granted the Monroe Municipal Airport permission to designate funds from the equipment replacement capital fund to replace a lawn mower at the cost of $10,300.
