MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:
Voted 7-1, with Chris Beer against, to approve intent to create biennial budgets. Council would approve budgets annually.
Voted unanimously to move ahead with steps to present a Spring Cleanup Days referendum on the November ballot.
Approved unanimously to approve the consent agenda, which included $207,150 to pay bills, granting miscellaneous licenses and class A beer and liquor licenses.
Held a public hearing and voated 7-1, with Tom Miller against, to approve additional wording to the city ordinances to prohibit city officials from disclosing any information discussed, debated or acted upon in a closed session of the Council or its standing committees.
Approved unanimously revisions to the employee policy regarding the calculation of holiday hours.
Approved unanimously removing a handicapped parking stall in the 1700 block of 15th Street and changing it to a no-parking area.
Approved unanimously to approve a purchase and development agreement with P and H Land Company for 1.2 acres in the North Industrial Park for the purchase price of $1.20 without additional improvement conditions. The lot is landlocked and is to become part of Monroe Motor Sports property.
Approved unanimously to direct City Administrator Phil Rath to engage the Green County Board of Supervisors in a discussion seeking city-appointed representation on the Solid Waste Management Board in proportion to the city's 50 percent use of the transfer station facility near Brodhead.
Alderman Louis Armstrong announced the repainted Swiss shields are ready for remounting on the downtown parking ramp.
Beer asked the council members to make better use of their microphone during meetings, so the sound will be audible in the video recordings.
Miller complimented the look of the downtown parking ramp after its spruce-up and improvements this spring.
Director of Public Works Colin Simpson announced the city received very little damage during the past weeks of storms and complimented the street and parks departments for their preventative maintenance work that contributed to the city's little need for storm cleanup.
Alderman Michael Boyce was absent.
