MONROE - At a meeting Monday, July 2 the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
- Approved bills from Whitney Tree Service for $4,580 for seven tree removals and four hours of trimming; Wisconsin Department of Transportation for $6,360 for work on 8th/9th Street; E & N Hughes Company for $15,200 for work on Lake Drive; and Iverson Construction for $116,600 for work on Lake Drive.
- Heard from Nate Klassy of Green County Solid Waste Management Board. Klassy presented a check for about $27, a refund to the city for about 8,000 pounds of mixed recycling. The board approved on March 19 a request from the Green County transfer station for the recyclables to be used to determine whether a co-mingled recycling program would be cost effective for the county facility. The station needed the co-mingled recyclables to help calculate handling and shipping costs. The station currently accepts separated recycling, which is shipped to a recycling center in Burlington. Klassy also spoke in favor of the city's switch to an automated garbage pickup method.
- Heard an update on the 2012-2013 salt prices from Street Supervisor Tom Boll. Salt for streets will be delivered at $63.51 per ton, a decrease from $65.47 per ton last year and $65.80 per ton two years ago.
- Authorized Park Supervisor Paul Klinzing to obtain quotes to hire an inspection engineer to conduct a structural assessment of the municipal swimming pool. Klinzing reported some of the mechanics of the pool are getting old. The pool is 33 years old.
- Heard an update on the emerald ash borer; Klinzing reported the insect has been sighted in Janesville.
- Recommended to the council to approve extending from July 15 to July 23 the contract with Iverson Construction, LLC for the Lake Drive project.

- Recommended to the council to approve Monroe Parks & Recreation Independence Day Celebration and Green County Cheese Days 2012 Festival.
MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, July 3, the City of Monroe Common Council:
- Approved unanimously Mayor Bill Ross' appointment of Russ Brown to the Historic Preservation Commission to replace the late Buzz Regez for a term to end on April 30, 2015.
- Approved unanimously Ross' appointment of Kelly Brunton, Monica Schneider and Bill Bethke to the Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners for terms to end June 30, 2015.
- Set a public hearing for Tuesday, July 17 for a resolution approving a second restated development agreement, general development plan and specific implementation plan (Phase 1 and Phase II) for the Northpass PUD.
- Voted unanimously to authorize the city to obtain the services of a temporary employment agency for work in city clerk's office, with an update in two months.
- Approved unanimously $487,750 to pay bills.
- Approved the Monroe Parks and Recreation Independence Day Celebration and Green County Cheese Days 2012 Festival.
- Approved guidelines and requirements for beer gardens and temporary extensions of liquor license premises.
- Granted miscellaneous licenses.
- Voted unanimously to authorize the city to take ownership of a run-down property on 11th Street and proceed with razing.
- Approved unanimously to extend a contract with Iverson Construction, LLC until July 23 for the Lake Drive project. The extension adds eight days to the original contract terms.
- Voted unanimously to designate City Administrator Phil Rath as the agent to file an application under Wisconsin Environmental Improvement Fund for the wastewater treatment plant reconstruction program.
- Voted unanimously to reimburse the wastewater fund with proceeds from the Environmental Improvement Fund loan for reconstruction costs on the wastewater treatment plant, as needed.
- Voted 5-3 to approve a $15,000 loan to Bargains Galore, Inc. from Revolving Loan Fund. Bauman, Lefevre and Schultz voted against. A prior motion by Bauman, seconded by Schultz, to table the issue pending more financial information was defeated by a 3-5 vote.
- Voted unanimously to set $250,000 as the amount of bond for city employees and authorized proceeding with the blanket bond policy.
n Approved an electronic communication and information systems policy.
- Voted unanimously to combine city wards for the primary (Aug. 14) and general (Nov. 6) elections.
Alderman Brooke Bauman expressed appreciation to city employees and Fourth of July celebration volunteers working in the extreme heat outside.
Alderman Tyler Schultz invited fellow council members to attend a Public Property Committee meeting Thursday, July 5 at the Green County Historical Society Museum to see the work being done there.
Alderman Tom Miller invited council members to the Airport Board of Management meeting Wednesday, July 18 when the design of the future airport terminal will be discussed.
