MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
- Approved a permit application to install a driveway on 10 1⁄2 Street for Ruda Properties, LLC.
- Approved bills from Veolia Environmental Services for $270 for June recycling; Fehr-Graham and Associates for $7,100 for 8/9th street water and sewer construction observation, $4,100 for administration of water and sewer grant; $13,400 for 8/9th street soil contamination management, $6,800 8/9th street water and sewer construction survey; and MSA Professional Services for $660 for 21st Street quality water detention pond design.
- Received an update on DOT salt bid. Street Supervisor Tom Boll reported the state bid, under which the city will get its road salt, was $65 per ton, delivered. That amount is about 33 cents less than in 2010.
- Received an update on the 4th Avenue and Shopko sanitary sewer project. Wastewater Treatment Utility Superintendent George Thompson reported the construction moved west into the business parking lot. Completion date is extended four days to Aug. 5. The heat index is causing crews to work fewer hours per day, slowing the work.
- Reviewed quotes and authorized the purchase of equipment for $9,600 for the East Terrace lift station.
- Reviewed the Lakeside Heights water, sewer and street project for 2012 and recommended a public informational meeting for August. Thompson will schedule the meeting with residents in the area.
- Postponed a review of quotes to hire a consultant/engineering firm for pond dredging plans and specifications. The board is awaiting submission of another quote.
- Reviewed and approved a Certificate of Substantial Completion for 8th and 9th streets sanitary sewer and water improvements project contract with Dane County Contracting, LLC. The contractor completed its work June 16, except to adjust manholes after the first layer of asphalt is laid.
- Reviewed and recommended to the council to approve change order to the contract with Dane County Contracting, LLC for 8th and 9th streets sanitary sewer and water improvement project, at an added cost of $30,100. City Engineer Supervisor Al Gerber said the cost for a televising of the sewer main, which the city would typically do on its own, was added under the project's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The order also included a change in some water mains size, the lowering of some lateral and additional materials.
MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:
- Recommended to the council to approve the Tuesday Noon Optimist Club Skateboard Competition, Aug. 13.
- Approved, pending a vehicle inspection, a vehicle trade by the police department. The department will trade a 1993 Ford F350 pickup for a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. Police Chief Fred Kelley said the pickup was obtained at little or no cost through a federal military program, but uses a lot of gas. The value of the vehicles are about the same, $3,000 to $3,300, and each has about 90,000 miles. Kelley said the suburban would be of better use for the department.
- Approved the purchase of a new vehicle by the police department to replace a 2006 vehicle. The purchase is to be made through a municipal lease contract and includes the trade-in. Funding for the lease payments comes from the department's capital account, and the purchase does not need council approval.
