MONROE - During a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Approved the Mayor's appointment of Dan Henke for Green County Development Corporation for a three-year term.

• Approved for payment claims in the amount of $3,873,108.59.

• Held a public hearing and voted to vacate and discontinue a portion of Fourth Avenue West and West Eighth Street rights-of-way.

• Voted to adopt all traffic signs, signals and speed zones posted or installed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, County of Green or Town of Monroe on Wis. 69 within the city limits, from First Street north to the north limits of the city along Wis. 69 corridor, on Aebly Road from Wis. 69 to city limits, and on County DR from Wis. 69 east to city limits.

• Voted to adopt all traffic signs, signals and speed zones posted or installed by the Wis. DOT, County of Green or Town of Monroe on Wis. 11 and 81, within the city limits, from Wis. 59 west to the city limits near 10th Avenue West.

• Approved restricted no-parking areas on the north side of the 900 block of 16th Street and east side of the 1600 block of Ninth Avenue from 16th Street south to the driveway, and directed the Monroe Street Department to install traffic signs indicating such.

• Granted operator licenses to Angelleena K. Coldiron and Ryan J. Hendricks.

• Approved the donation of a Hurst JL-16B Paladin Tool to the Woodford Fire Department. The Monroe Fire Department received a grant to purchase a new one.

• Voted to ratify a quit claim deed for the sale of land (lots one and two of CSM # 2611, Vol. 9, pg. 82, Doc. 389265) to J3 Investments.

• Set a public hearing date of Jan. 20 for a resolution petitioning the secretary of transportation for airport improvement aid.

• Authorized combining all 10 wards in the city for the 2009 February primary to have one election result total for the whole city, and that separate returns not be maintained for each ward.

Aldermen Neal Hunter and Keith Ingwell were absent.
