MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee:
- Recommend to the council an ordinance that would restrict solid waste from being collected between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in residential zones and the downtown Central Business District, or within 400 feet of the zone boundaries. An exemption was made for the city administrator to lift the restrictions during civil emergencies. Members voted 2-1, with Chris Beer and Sara Conway voting in favor, and Tyler Schultz voting against.
- Voted unanimously to recommend to council to pass a resolution for the city to request the state legislature address the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. The issue was brought before the committee by the city's health officer, Dr. John Franz, who asked the city take action on restricting the sale within city limits, because the state had no laws controlling the product.
