MONROE - During a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:
• Approved the mayor's appointment of Janet Thompson for a five-year term on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
• Set a public hearing date of Feb. 18 for an ordinance repealing and recreating Chapter 12 of Title 3 of the Monroe City Code: Weights and Measures. The changes give the city authority to recuperate the cost of fees for inspecting weighing and measuring devices from licensees. Fees amounts will be set by resolution, based on the type and number of devices inspected, and include an administrative charge. The changes will affect about 35 Monroe businesses.
• Approved for payment claims in the amount of $311,455.78.
• Granted an electrical operator license to Bob & Company Electrical LLC, Robert Zimmerman; and operator licenses to Kelly M. Homb and Gerri J. Valley.
• Authorized the hiring of Whitney Tree Service, Monroe, to perform forestry work for 2009.
