MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Held a public hearing and passed an ordinance repealing and recreating Section 2-2-2 of the Monroe City Code: Meeting of the Board of Review. The wording more closely reflects that of state statue 70.47, allowing the Board of Review to grant a property owner a 60-day extension for a hearing related to an objection. The owner must submit with the objection a request to the board for the extension and payment of a fee in the amount specified in state statue section 70.47 (7)(c). (That cost is currently $100.) The extension may be further extended if owner shows good cause.

• Held a public hearing and passed an ordinance creating Chapter 8 of Title 8 of the Monroe City Code: Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination. The chapter applies to all water entering the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems.

• Held a public hearing and passed an ordinance rezoning property No. 134, located on 21st Street, to be rezoned form M-1 (light industrial) to R-2 (medium density residential).

• Held a public hearing and passed an ordinance rezoning property No. 135, located on Fourth Avenue West, to be rezoned from M-1 to B-2 (general business).

• Paid claims in the amount of $274,904.70.

• Passed a resolution adopting traffic signs and signals for the Wal-Mart Supercenter area. The signs include lane control signs, speed limit signs, traffic signals, stop signs and folding stop signs for emergency use. New signs will be placed in the 200 block and 700 block of Sixth Avenue West, 400 block of West Second Street, the intersection of West Seventh Street and Sixth Avenue West, the intersection of West Second Street and Sixth Avenue West, and the intersection of Fourth Avenue West and County N.
