MONROE - On Tuesday, April 15, the Monroe Common Council unanimously:

• Hired Nancy D. Heidenreich as a Police Department dispatcher, effective May 5, 2008, at the union contract rate of $13.76 per hour. Employment is contingent upon passing a drug test, medical screening and one year probation.

• Approved claims in the amount of $2,650,727.26.

• Granted an electrical journeyman license to Carl W. Kirchner, an electrical contractor license to John C. Powell, and an operator license to Jean P. Drnek.

• Authorized the nomination of an alderperson to the Greenwood Cemetery Association Board. The city asked the association for a voting member position on the board in view of the "significant funding" the city provides annually for the operation of the cemetery. The nomination will be made annually by the mayor. Alderman Paul Hannes was nominated to fill the first year, as a voting member. Hannes had been on the board defacto. Mayor Ron Marsh said Hannes was informed of the intent to nominate him to the position and Hannes accepted.

Hannes was absent Tuesday.
