Monroe City Band plans continuing concert series

The soloist for the Monroe City Band concert series June 17 will be Jonah Levia on trombone, performing “Thoughts of Love.”

MONROE — The Monroe City Band continues its summer concert series Monday, June 17 with the concert theme Dancing Around the World. This concert features a variety of musical selections revolving around many styles of dance music. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Twining Park Bandshell and is free to the public. 

Each concert during the summer season features a member of the band as soloist. The Dancing Around the World concert soloist will be Jonah Levia on trombone, performing “Thoughts of Love,” composed by Arthur Pryor. 

The Monroe City Band was founded in 1949 by Allan F. Barnard as a way for adults to continue to perform music after high school. Currently in its 70th year, the band will captivate the community with a full schedule of events and a wide variety of musical genres. The summer season will continue with performances at the Twining Park Bandshell on July 4, July 15 and July 29. This year there will also be a special Diamond Birthday Celebration Concert on Aug. 11 in addition to the annual holiday concerts in December.
