MONROE - A former Monroe salesman plans to regrow roots in the city by revitalizing Monroe Auto Sales, where he worked as sales manager between 1995 and 2000 before moving on to create his own chain of dealerships.

Mike Ubersox, owner of Ubersox Used Car Superstore, established the Ubersox Auto Group in southwest Wisconsin. It now consists of four stores spanning from Platteville to Monroe. Locations in Barneveld and Platteville sell new and used vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. Darlington's location includes an assortment of used cars.

Ubersox officially took over the Monroe Auto Sales location, along West 8th Street at 1st Avenue, on March 1. Ubersox said the dealership has been busy updating the building even before the official exchange.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity," Ubersox said. "We've put a bit of elbow grease into it and it looks good."

Former Monroe Auto Sales owner Sherri Fiduccia had been finance manager and a colleague to Ubersox in the late 1990s. Fiduccia said a conversation between the longtime acquaintances sparked the idea of a new outlook for the business.

"(Ubersox) has been very successful," Fiduccia said. "In today's age, you have to have a franchise standing behind you. You have to have a new car dealership. I think this is great for Monroe."

Fiduccia has stayed on with Ubersox as financial manager, alongside two other employees. Ubersox said they also hired two Monroe residents as additional staff. As for the other dealerships in Monroe, Ubersox said he's eager for competition. He sees an opportunity to build on the success of his former time with Monroe Auto Sales.

"Business breeds business," Ubersox said. "I think we can do more than we did (before)."

Ubersox Used Cars Superstore will officially open to the public today. There are plans to host a grand opening the first week of April.
