MONROE - Monroe Arts Center will present music by The Kithara Trio at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 . The performance is the first of three performances scheduled as part of the Sunday Concert Series of classical music.
The trio of Illinois musicians, who play a combination of harp, cello and flute, will present their stirring program titled "America the Beautiful."
Since 1990, the Kithara Trio, named for the Greek word "harp," has captivated audiences with their musical talents. The musicians have performed throughout the Midwest with appearances as guest artists at the Freeport Community Concert Series, the Lyric Opera Center for Performing Artists, the Union League of Women's Club, the 19th Century Women's Club, and the Dixon Recital Series, to name a few. They celebrated their 15th year anniversary in a noted concert at the Chicago Cultural Center with soprano Linda Dayantis-Straub. With two CD's produced and arranged by the trio to their credit, the group has risen to notoriety as the most unique and creative in their field. These talented musicians can be heard in many Chicago area musical ensembles individually, and continue their tradition of music-making together as a trio.
Faye Seeman, principal harpist of the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra, is adjunct professor of harp studies at Wheaton College, Northern Illinois University, College of DuPage and Northeastern Illinois University. As founder of the "Kithara," she led the group to notoriety with its broadcast work on WTTW's "30 Good Minutes", the recording of two Kithara Trio CDs, and published many arrangements for the group through Lyon and Healy Harps West. From 2002-2012, Faye was principal harpist of the Joffrey Ballet Chicago. As a solo artist, Faye completed her first solo CD in 2010 titled, Nearer to Heaven. During the summer months Faye is on the faculty of the Birch Creek Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin, and is guest lecturer at both the Midwest Harp Festival in Tulsa, Okla., and the Pacific Harp Institute at Icicle Creek Chamber Music Camp in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state.
