FREEPORT — A man reported missing last week out of Carroll County, Illinois, was found dead in a crashed vehicle southwest of Freeport after suffering a heart attack.
Michael T. Labellarte, 64, lived on a grape and hay farm in the Shannon area for the last 20 years of his life making wine and raising animals, according to his obituary.
The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Labellarte was missing and possibly in the southern portion of the county at about 3 p.m. Nov. 13.
About seven hours later, deputies and Illinois State Police troopers found him in a partially rolled vehicle in a deep ravine off Florence Road West in Florence Station.
“He had a heart attack and went off the road. The cause of death was medical,” said Lt. Brad Curtis.
