Minor damage in police fender bender

MONROE — A minor accident involving two Monroe Police Department squad cars was reported at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened in the department parking lot at 1811 12th St.

Chief of Police Fred Kelley, 63, Monroe, was backing his vehicle when it collided with a vehicle driven by Officer Michael Mortimer, 52, Monroe, causing minor damage. 

No injuries were reported, and both squad vehicles were driven from the scene.

Both Kelley and Mortimer were on duty at the time, said Green County Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski. Moczynski did not have information on the estimated cost of damage to the vehicles.
