CHICAGO, Ill. - Monroe Middle School student Emilee Borowski competed in the 2012 Hustle Up the Hancock on Feb. 26, taking first place in her female age group.
Every year, thousands of people climb to the top of the John Hancock Center to raise funds for lung disease advocacy and education. Those who participate can choose from the two climbing categories, the full 94-floor climb or the half 52-floor climb
Borowski, 11, raised more than $1,300 in climbing all 94 floors of the building - a total of 1,632 steps - in 21 minutes, 4 seconds.
This is Borowski's third year participating in the event. She trains for about three months prior to the Hustle.
"This is a very hard event, but I made it to the top again," Borowski said. "I'm very proud of myself for doing this. I'm really happy that I got first place, too."
Steve Borowski, Emilee's dad, is from Chicago and has been doing the Hustle for the past seven years, teaming with his daughter for the last three.
