About 60 Monroe High School students exercised their first amendment right to assemble, walking out of class at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 31. The student-led walkout coincided with a day of protests around the country concerning the actions of the U.S. Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). School officials and staff did not participate, though law enforcement was on scene as a safety precaution. The group twice walked from the arches to the far side of the north parking lot and back. Students that participated received an unexcused absence from class. The students returned to office lobby promptly at 10 a.m.
