MONROE - A 14-year-old Monroe High School student was charged with arson after a small fire started on a soap dispenser at the school on Tuesday.
The fire was discovered in a restroom by a student who notified a staff member and the fire was quickly extinguished. According to a Monroe Police Department news release, the young boy intentionally started the fire. The student was released to a parent pending referral to juvenile authorities.
The fire caused moderate damage to the restroom and no one was injured. No classes were delayed and no one was in any immediate danger caused by the fire.
Police and the Monroe Fire Department responded to investigate the fire.
