MONROE - A 22-year-old Madison man who allegedly caused a crash that killed a 10-year-old Stoughton boy in October will have another pre-trial conference on July 15 to allow for more time for an accident reconstruction report.

Trevor McGuire appeared in Green County Circuit Court Tuesday for charges of one count of first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of first-degree reckless endangerment. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Kohl and defense attorney Tracey Wood agreed to a date for a pre-trial conference, as the attorneys need to see a completed accident report before proceeding any further with the case. Wood later said she was unsure why the Wisconsin State Patrol's investigation into the accident is taking so long but is hopeful it will be finished by July.

"There's a lot of data to sort through, to find speed and whether braking affected the speed to any degree," Wood said.

She said McGuire has been seeking treatment for alcohol abuse at Manitoba House in Milwaukee.

Court records indicate McGuire was driving a 1998 red GMC pickup that hit a minivan driven by Matthew Iverson, 35, Stoughton, on Wisconsin 59 at Broughton Road, Albany. The accident resulted in the death of Iverson's son Michael on Oct. 7. Michael's two siblings were also in the van and survived with minor injuries. Matthew Iverson sustained extensive injuries, including a fractured pelvis, back, elbow, cheek bone and broken ribs.

McGuire sustained non-life-threatening injuries and had to be transported to the hospital. His passenger, Michael G.V. Ladwig, 24, had minor injuries but declined medical attention at the scene of the accident. Deputies found an opened bottle of tequila on the passenger-side floor of the pickup. A deputy described McGuire's eyes as appearing "red and glossy."

McGuire and Ladwig reportedly had been drinking and loading furniture in preparation for their move to a new apartment to Monroe before the crash. The Iversons were on their way home from a volleyball game in Monroe.
