Marklein, Novak receive WCA Outstanding Legislator Awards

MADISON — State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) and Rep. Todd Novak (Dodgeville) have been honored by the Wisconsin Counties Association with a WCA Outstanding Legislator Award for their work on behalf of county government during the 2023-2024 Legislative Session.

“In his role as co-chair of the Joint Committee on Finance, Senator Marklein has been a valuable partner to counties, not only in his district, but in all of Wisconsin,” said WCA President & CEO Mark D. O’Connell. “He is a tireless leader who understands counties are at the foundation of what makes our state thrive and he has worked to advance sensible public policy initiatives in a fiscally responsible manner.”

The “WCA Outstanding Legislator Award” is handed out biennially to a select group of legislators who have represented county interests in both the legislature and in their districts. These legislators have demonstrated leadership for counties on key issues, legislation and the state budget. The works to promote dialogue and cooperation between state and local governments.

“From working to create historical changes to the shared revenue program that will position our local communities for success for generations, to advocating for investments in Wisconsin’s roads and infrastructure, we are incredibly proud to honor Senator Marklein with this award.”

Marcie Rainbolt and Chelsea Shanks from the Wisconsin Counties Association presented the “Outstanding Legislator Award” to Novak at the State Capitol July 10.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Counties for my work on shared revenue funding increases for counties and municipalities, as well as Assembly Bill 560, our videoconferencing legislation and Assembly Bill 651, regarding cameras in highway work zones.” said Novak. “As Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Local Government, I prioritize issues affecting our local governments and citizens’ daily lives on a regular basis.”
