MONROE - As the nation's electorate remains largely focused on the presidential race, a number of local candidates are running unchallenged in the Nov. 8 election.
In Green County, incumbents seeking re-election are Mike Doyle, county clerk; Sherri Hawkins, county treasurer; and Cynthia Meudt, county register of deeds. Hawkins and Meudt are running as Republicans; Doyle is seeking re-election as an Independent.
Also on the ballot is Monroe attorney Craig Nolen who is seeking the district attorney's office. Nolen, a Republican, is running uncontested to replace long-time DA Gary Luhman, who is not seeking re-election.
The only contested race in Lafayette County government is between incumbent District Attorney Kate Findley, a Democrat, and her Republican challenger Jenna Gill.
Seeking re-election without challenge are Republican incumbents Carla Jacobson, county clerk; Becky Taylor, county treasurer; and Joseph Boll, register of deeds.
The 51st Assembly race sees incumbent Todd Novak, R-Dodgeville, challenged by newcomer Jeff Wright, a school administrator from Plain running on the Democratic ticket.
Incumbent Mark Spreitzer, D-Beloit, is seeking re-election to the 45th Assembly District without challenge.
In the 80th Assembly District, Sondy Pope, D-Mt. Horeb, is likewise seeking re-election without challenge.
Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Town of Vermont, is seeking re-election to the 2nd Congressional District. He is being challenged by Peter Theron, a Republican from Madison.
