MONROE - Green County Human Services (GCHS) has several programs available to help those families and individuals who need assistance, according to Jeannie Blumer, Green County Economic Support specialist.
Some of the programs include:
n Medical Assistance, which covers most medical services prescribed by a physician.
n Food Share, formerly the food stamp program. The program supplements a family's food supply. Benefits are issued via a debt card.
n Child Care Assistance for eligible families using a certified or licensed provider, a payment goes directly to the child care provider for part of the child's care at the facility.
n Energy Assistance. Payments under the program go directly to the vendors for both heat and electricity. For those owning their home, furnace replacement or repair services are available under certain circumstances. Eligible energy assistance households are referred to Project Home for weatherization services.
n W-2 or Wisconsin Works is the replacement program for Aid to Families with Dependent Children. This is a work program and only some households receive a cash benefit. The maximum cash benefit per month is $673, regardless of family size.
In addition to the services available in he immediate area, GCHS also refers clients to other service providers, such as Southern Wisconsin Community Action Program in Dodgeville. People can go to www.swcap.org for a list of services.
GCHS partners with local food pantries, St. Vincent DePaul, and the Salvation Army.
