BRODHEAD - A man with family ties to Brodhead and a warrant out for his arrest turned himself in to police last week after cutting off his Department of Corrections electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, according to the Brodhead Police Department.
Benjamin J. Matteson, 28, South Milwaukee, is on extended supervision for several felony convictions, including second-degree sexual assault of a child and fleeing or eluding police in a vehicle.
Matteson recently cut off his electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet and hitchhiked to Brodhead from Milwaukee to visit family, according to Brodhead Police Chief Chris Hughes.
"However, Matteson was told by this family to turn himself in," Hughes said in a release.
Matteson was "pacing in the hallway" outside a City of Brodhead committee meeting at City Hall on the evening of Feb. 13. Hughes was attending the meeting, and when he came out to ask Matteson how he could help him, Matteson "informed me he cut off his monitoring bracelet" and wanted to turn himself in, Hughes said.
Matteson was taken to the Green County Jail, awaiting transport back to Milwaukee. The Department of Corrections issued a warrant for his arrest on Jan. 22.
