Man surrenders; police standoff ends after 13 hours
MONROE - A man who held police in a standoff for more than 13 hours as he threatened to shoot himself surrendered uninjured at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. The standoff began at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 when Monroe police were called to a home in the 600 block of 19th Avenue on a report that a man, described as despondent, brandished a pistol in front of friends and threatened to shoot himself, according to a news release from the Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley. The man was alone in the home.
