MONROE — A Monroe man with four convictions of drunken driving pleaded guilty to his fifth offense Monday, Dec. 9.
Jeremy A. Rutledge, 40, entered his plea to the felony charge of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated as part of a plea agreement in Green County Circuit Court.
He also pleaded guilty to felony bail jumping. A related fifth-offense charge of operating with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration was dismissed.
He was sentenced to nine months in jail and four years on probation, with conditions including any treatment or counseling deemed appropriate by his probation agent. His driver’s license is revoked three years and, once he’s relicensed, he’s ordered to have an ignition-interlock device installed on his vehicle for three years.
He’s eligible for Huber work release from jail as long as he reports and remains sober.
The OWI case stems from a traffic crash at about 12:10 a.m. Feb. 22 in Monroe. According to police reports, Rutledge lost control of his vehicle as he turned a corner and he went off the street and got stuck in snow.
The felony bail jumping conviction stems from an arrest at his home in September. Police were at his home on an unrelated matter and determined he had been drinking alcohol in violation of court-ordered bail conditions from the OWI case.
State court records show Rutledge had his second-offense OWI in September 2006 and his fourth-offense OWI in October 2014, both in Green County. He was sentenced to six months in jail for the fourth-offense OWI.
