Man injured in fall from scaffolding

MONROE - Police report an Arena, Wis., man, age 60, fell from scaffolding outside the Phillips Furniture and Appliance, Inc. store at 905 30th St., Monroe, on Thursday morning.

Police were called out at 9:35 a.m., with EMS and Monroe Fire Department also called to the scene. The man was transported to Monroe Clinic hospital.

No further information, including the man's name and the extent of his injuries, has been released.

Phillips Furniture and Appliance store was the scene of an early-morning fire Oct. 9.

Firefighters saved the building, which received interior smoke damage and extensive damage to the outside.

The fire is believed to have been intentionally set. Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch suspected arson, because a pile of mattresses was ignited to start the fire.

No one was in the building at the time.

The Monroe Fire Department responded to the fire about 2:15 a.m. Oct. 9. The fire was contained about two hours later. Seven fire departments responded to the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
