DARLINGTON - A Mount Horeb man remains jailed following his initial appearance Wednesday in Lafayette County Circuit Court for charges related to a sexual assault that took place Dec. 24.

Antwan D. Williams, 30, is charged with second-degree sexual assault, a class C felony; burglary and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, both class F felonies; and aggravated battery, strangulation and suffocation, and false imprisonment, all class H felonies.

He faces up to 83 years in prison and up to $180,000 in fines, if convicted. Lafayette County Circuit Court Judge William D. Johnston set a $25,000 cash bond. Williams' preliminary hearing is Jan. 7.

Court records allege Williams entered a residence on Louisa Street at about 4 a.m. Dec. 24 without permission, sexually assaulted and physically attacked a female.

The female was an acquaintance of Williams', according to Jason King, Darlington Police chief.

"This was not a random act of violence," King said.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County by Rural Medical Ambulance. She was later transferred to Meriter Hospital in Madison.

She was released from a Madison hospital in good condition the same day of the assault.
