BROWNTOWN - A 42-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday, April 3, after he allegedly fired a shotgun drunkenly outside his home on South Church Street.
Todd R. Johnson was jailed at about 2 a.m. on charges of possessing a firearm as a felon and intoxicated use of a firearm, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to the residence, 204 S. Church St., after receiving an alarm alert at 9:48 p.m. from the home's security system of a possible backdoor burglary. Soon afterward, a neighbor called dispatch to report seeing Johnson come out of his house and fire a gun.
When deputies and the Wisconsin State Patrol arrived, Johnson reportedly had covered up his windows and was refusing to come out.
Neighbors were evacuated from their homes for safety.
Green County's SWAT team was called in, and after several hours of trying to make contact with someone in the house, the team forcibly broke in, arrested Johnson and recovered a gun.
There were no injuries, and neighbors were allowed to return to their homes shortly after the arrest, according to the sheriff's report.
The case is still under investigation. It's so far unclear what may have caused Johnson to fire a gun, according to the sheriff's department.
