FREEPORT — A 28-year-old Freeport man was arrested on drug possession charges August 8, according to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) and Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 800 block of W. Stephenson St. in Freeport.
“Upon entry, Jawon Stib (age 28), a resident of the target location, was taken into custody on an outstanding Stephenson County warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine 1-15 grams (court case 23CF36),” a press release from Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Andy Schroeder stated. “At the time of his arrest on the warrant, Stib was found in possession of approximately 5.6 grams of suspected crack cocaine.”
During a subsequent search of the residence, investigators located an additional 3.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a 9mm pistol. Following review by the Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Stib was charged with the felony offense of Possession with Intent to Deliver 1-15 grams of Cocaine. Stib was taken to Stephenson County Jail pending the outcome of a detention hearing.
“The 9mm pistol recovered during the search is the subject of a separate, ongoing investigation to determine its lawful ownership and who may have possessed it. No charges related to the firearm were been filed at this time,” the release said.
The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team, the State Line Area Narcotics Team (S.L.A.N.T.), and Mercy Health MD1 in the investigation.
