Man charged with assaulting Green County deputy

MONROE - A Monroe man was charged Monday with assaulting an officer after he struck an Green County deputy in the face during an altercation in July.

Benjamin Eric Tackett, 28, faces a Class H felony count of resisting an officer causing bodily harm and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Tackett was charged after an incident July 27 at the Monroe Clinic intensive care unit. Tackett had been admitted to the ICU under observation after a drug-related incident.

According to police reports, Tackett became agitated and refused to submit to drug rehabilitation after his release from the ICU. When attending police officers attempted to restrain Tackett, he resisted being handcuffed and attempted to leave his room.

When officers again attempted to stop Tackett, he began violently flailing his arms, striking one of the officers in the face. Officers then incapacitated Tackett by shooting him in the chest with a Taser.

Tackett faces a maximum possible sentence of three years in prison for his charges. His initial appearance is scheduled for Dec. 12.
