SHULLSBURG - A 59-year-old was arrested Monday as a suspect in a meth lab operating out of a home in Shullsburg, according to Lafayette County authorities.
Robert F. Gundry, who lives in the residence at 221 W. Water St., is charged with maintaining a drug house and with three felony counts related to the manufacture of methamphetamine. The matter has been referred to the Lafayette County District Attorney for a review and final charging decisions.
Officers and drug agents executed a search warrant on the home at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.
"The search disclosed the evidence of a suspected red phosphorous methamphetamine lab that has been in operation on multiple occasions at the residence," said Sheriff Scott Pedley in a release.
Evidence of illicit drug distribution was also discovered within the home, he said.
"Additional suspects have been identified and are being sought for their involvement in this illicit drug manufacturing and distribution investigation," Pedley said.
A cleanup company was called in to collect hazardous waste in the home. Shullsburg firefighters and medics were also dispatched to the address to provide on-scene support in the event of a fire or any medical emergencies.
Working together in the investigation were Lafayette County deputies, Shullsburg police and members of the Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response (CLEAR), a collaboration of the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, the Prairie du Chien Police Department and the Columbia County and Lafayette County Sheriffs' Offices.
Court records show Gundry has two prior drug convictions in Wisconsin, both in Lafayette County. He was fined in 1992 on a felony conviction of possessing more than 2,500 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver. In 2004, he was sentenced to six months in jail on two felony convictions of manufacturing and delivering marijuana.
