BRODHEAD - A 77-year-old Brodhead man is in critical condition following a skid loader accident Monday, at 8418 S. Nelson Road, according to a Sheriff's department statement.

At about 2:46 p.m., the Rock County Sheriff's Office responded to a call that a skid loader was falling off a wooden bridge. Deputies later learned Robert Alich, was the operator of the machinery near a barn in southwest Rock County, six miles southeast of Brodhead.

An investigation of the incident revealed Alich was driving the skid loader up a dirt ramp onto a wood overpass, which is attached to a barn. The driveway then leads into the haymow, the statement said.

While driving across the wooden overpass, it gave way from the barn and the skid loader fell 15 feet. The piece of equipment carrying Alich landed on the ground, on end, with the front resting against the barn wall.

Alich was not wearing a seatbelt, but was not ejected.

Alich was conscious and alert when removed by medical personnel from the skid loader.

Alich was transported by React Helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital with incapacitating injuries. As of Monday evening, Alich was listed in critical condition.

Personnel from Orfordville Police Department, Orfordville Fire and EMS, and Brodhead EMS also responded to the accident.
