MONROE - The Gomers, the popular Madison house band, will be Main Street Monroe's first Concert on the Square at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The 2016 season features six shows, all sponsored by Colony Brands.
With a long song list featuring pop and classic hits from the 60s through the 90s, the band is known for their signature live karaoke style of "Gomer-oke" - and the Main Street Concert committee has it covered with a lineup of local talent recruited to belt out some power vocals with The Gomers providing backup. Tim Davis of TNT DJ Entertainment will spin tunes during intermission, courtesy of the John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project.
The featured non-profit for Friday's show is Green Haven Family Advocates, an organization providing advocacy and support for those affected by domestic violence. Five additional non-profit organizations will be recognized throughout the season: Monroe Clinic Foundation Hospice, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pleasant View Foundation, Green County EMS and Green County Historical Society. The featured six will be highlighted at the Aug. 12 concert when Main Street Monroe presents a "sunset celebration" night with vendor booths and street entertainers added to the mix on the inner ring of the south side of the Square.
Register at Heartland Graphics for the "Best Seat in the House" contest with premium seating courtesy of Genthe's plus a dining, beverage and swag package. Sign up all summer; winners will be drawn prior to each show.
There will be food stands available with everything from pizza from Suisse Haus served by Family Promise, to popcorn courtesy of Bartels Tap served by Special Olympics. The Main Street Beverage Garden will feature local brews such as Spotted Cow and Huber Bock along with seasonal favorite Summer Shandy, and soda and water. The Minhas Mini Bar will be back, with cans of Huber Premium, Shorebreak IPA, Boxer and Boxer Light, courtesy of Minhas Craft Brewery.
In case of rain, the entire event moves to SLICE. For the latest updates follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit mainstreetmonroe.org.
Upcoming concert dates are The Brat Pack, June 24; Thirsty Jones, July 8; Moonlight Jazz Orchestra, July 28; Free Fallin', Aug. 12; Birddog Blues Band and The Family Business, Aug. 25.
