The Main Street Monroe concert summer series continues at 6:30 p.m. today on the Square with the band Free Fallin' performing a tribute to Tom Petty and other classic rockers.

The band's performance is sponsored by Colony Brands.

Special entertainment during the evening will be in the style of a Sunset Celebration like those held nightly in Key West, Florida, with street entertainers and vendor booths.

Entertainment and free activities for the evening include face painting, a caricature artist, and balloon twisting with Dottie the Clown. A stilt walker from Jolly Giants dressed as the Queen of Hearts will help to promote a 50-50 playing card raffle.

This season's featured nonprofit organizations - including Green Haven Family Advocates, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Green County EMS, Monroe Clinic Foundation Hospice, Green County Historical Society, and the Pleasant View Foundation - have all been invited to set up informational booths. Other groups and businesses also will be hosting booths with items for sale. Children are invited to stop by the Green County Cheese Days booth to color a paper cheesemaker hat, spin the wheel for prizes and meet Cheese Days royalty, including Prince Simon Zimmerman and Princess Delaney Sweeney.

Food for sale will include pizza by the slice, brats, ice cream and cotton candy. The Main Street Beverage Garden features a variety of local brews, and a wine stand with proceeds benefiting Knights of Columbus.

In case of rain, the event moves to the Green County Fairgrounds. For the latest updates follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.

The final concert of the season Aug. 25 features a double billing with Birddog Blues Band and The Family Business. Stop in at Heartland Graphics to sign up to win the "Best Seat in the House" contest with premium seating courtesy of Genthe's, plus a dining, beverage, and swag package.

A significant portion of the Main Street budget is derived from sponsors and tax-deductible donations. Volunteers are also needed. Contact Main Street Monroe director Jordan Nordby at 608.328.4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.
