MONROE - During a meeting Monday, the Monroe Main Street Board of Directors kept the downtown streetscape project moving by sending a recommendation to the Monroe City Council to proceed with contract bids.
The board also discussed how downtown businesses could plan to keep customers coming downtown during the construction.
Board Chairman Dr. David Riese said it would be helpful to have the content of the Tech Visit, scheduled for Feb. 5 and 6, centered on ways other cities have approached and survived construction, and what ways have not been successful.
A review of 2008 projects showed that Monroe Main Street has accomplished about half of its 2009 projects, with the inclusion of the inner circle during the downtown reconstruction.
