MONROE - Another major winter storm that began around 4 a.m. near Monroe is expected to dump up to 8 inches of snow on the Green County area by tonight, March 5.
As of 3:46 a.m., the National Weather Service downgraded its snowfall prediction slightly for the area of state that includes Darlington, Monroe, Madison and Janesville to 5 to 8 inches. As of Monday night, the NWS expected up to 10 inches would fall.
Snow is expected to continue to fall during the day, becoming heavy at times. And the possibility of difficult travel conditions remains.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. and the NWS reports winds will be 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, causing blowing snow late this afternoon and early evening. Residents should expect hazardous travel conditions this afternoon and evening.
Area schools were closed today.
