WEST ALLIS - A 19-year-old who won top honors at the Green County Fair last month has died after suffering a head injury at the Wisconsin State Fair.

John Klossner, of the rural New Glarus area, fell from the back of a pickup truck at the fair on Aug. 3, according to a report from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner.

Police say Klossner was handling cattle at the fair and was riding in the bed of the pickup with four others. Authorities say after some coaxing from passengers, the pickup driver floored the accelerator and Klossner and another person fell off the truck. The teen landed on his feet, but then fell backward and hit his head on the asphalt, according to the report.

Whiler receiving rehab on Monday, Aug. 12, Klossner became unresponsive and died, the report said.

Klossner, the son of Richard and Roxanne Klossner, was active in local and state dairy organizations and activities and a veteran of showing livestock at the state fair. He earned numerous awards and accolades from his participation in 4-H, including the Supreme Showmanship Champion award at this year's Green County Fair. He was a member of New Glarus 4-H and graduated from New Glarus High School in 2012.
