MONROE - The Green County Development Corporation recently held its annual meeting and recognition dinner at Kuhn North America in Brodhead.

The evening recognized community and business leaders who have had an impact on the economic health of the county, and concluded with a presentation by Robert Ady, president of Ady International.

Green County Development Corporation Executive Director Anna Schramke presented the 2009 recipient of the Richard B. Schmied Leadership Award to Monsignor Thomas Campion.

Several businesses were recognized as an Outstanding Business of the Year for their achievements in 2009, including Sugar River Dairy, Albany and New Glarus Home, New Glarus, Grande Cheese Company, Juda, and Emmi-Roth Kase USA Ltd, Monroe.

Chris and Ron Paris, rural Albany, are the creative parents and the partners that make up Sugar River Dairy, a yogurt company that started in 2002. Their product can be found at local farmers markets, and in some local grocery and specialty food stores.

The New Glarus Home began construction on of a 26-unit assisted living facility in 2009. The "Glarner Lodge" is slated to open in late summer or early fall 2010 and will result in 10 new jobs. Complementing the existing campus, Glarner Lodge will provide a retirement service between that of its senior housing and nursing home.

Grande Cheese Company began operating its Juda facility in 2001. The facility currently employs 104 associates in the plant, where Italian Cheeses, mozzarella, ricotta and whey products are produced.

In 2009, Emmi AG acquired Roth Kase USA. In the United States market, Emmi USA and Roth Kase USA have joined forces as Emmi-Roth Kase USA to offer domestic and imported cheeses, as well as dairy products. The company also began the third phase of its expansion project, a 13,000-square-foot addition used to cure cheese. The new curing facility will dry-cure new products. In addition, new products were added to their line of award-winning cheeses.

The 2009 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award was presented to Richard Grahn, owner of Green County Spotlight LLC.
