MONROE - The 19th annual Chili Cook Off starts on the courthouse square Saturday. The event will feature plenty of sweet, spicy and fresh food; and live music.
The cook-off begins with set-up at 7 a.m., when many participating chefs begin making chili. Application forms for the popular chili and apple pie contests must be submitted Saturday morning; and are available at the Monroe Chamber office, das Baumhas or via the Monroe Youth Hockey web page.
Many of the chili dishes - from hot to mild and everything in between - will be ready for sampling at 10 a.m., officials said. In addition to chili and pie, many other area food vendors will be at the event, along with the Monroe Farmers' Market.
Live entertainment will be courtesy of The Jimmy's, fronted by Green County native Jimmy Voegeli. They are a nine-piece band with plenty of brass and keyboards providing a taste of Chicago blues and New Orleans funk.
Winners of the Chili Cook Off and Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest will be announced at about 2 p.m.
