MONROE - Entries for Main Street Monroe's Holiday Lighting Contest will be accepted until Friday, Nov. 30.
Residents can enter one of three categories including Kid's Favorite Christmas; Lights, Lights and more Lights; and Silent Night, Holy Night. Businesses can enter the Christmas Around the Square category or Deck Your Business category, depending on the business location. Winners in each category will receive $20 in Monroe Money.
The people's choice winner will win an additional $50 in Monroe Money. All winning homes will be included on the Christmas Coach tours held on Friday, Dec. 7.
Residents can enter by completing an entry form and dropping it in the entry box located at the Monroe Public Library or enter by emailing their name, address, phone number and the category they are entering to mainstreetevent@yahoo.com. Entry forms are available at the Monroe Public Library and at participating stores that offer Christmas lights and decorations.
Main Street Monroe, Monroe Clinic and Lamers will be sponsoring the Christmas Coach Tours around the city to view Christmas light displays. Tours will be departing from the Monroe Public Library at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. Advance tickets are available at Rainbow Confections, 1600 11th St., and cost $5 per person until Thursday, Dec. 6. Remaining tickets will be available the evening of the event. Children under 2 can ride free of charge when sitting on their parents' laps.
