MONROE - The Monroe Art Center Frehner Gallery will present "The Sound of Light," a painting exhibit by artist Carol Dolan, Palos Heights, Ill., from Friday, March 30 through Friday, May 11, at MAC, 1315 11th St.

The series of work is described as expressing "the artist's journey, which explores luminance light on her minimalist canvas. Layers upon layers of transparent pigment with the slightest tint of color produce a glowing like surface on thin mounted fabrics. The stretcher bars show through the painting which provide a geometric viewing field, while maintaining a softness."

Dolan received her masters of fine art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She held a visiting faculty position at the Art Institute of Chicago in the both the continuing studies department and the painting and drawing departments.

Also on exhibit at MAC during April will be the work of non-professional artists participating in the 25th Annual Wisconsin Regional Art Program Competition and Exhibit. This year more than 30 amateur artists will compete in this program. Being a WRAP state award winner allows artist to compete at the state WRAP competition in September in Madison. Dolan will serve as judge for the event.

An artist workshop, which is open to the public for a $5 fee, will be conducted by Dolan from 9:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 12 at MAC.

An opening reception for both exhibits is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 30 in Frehner Gallery, with a brief gallery talk at 5:30 p.m. by Dolan. The exhibits and reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit has been made possible by Monroe Arts Center corporate underwriter, Colony Brands, Inc., and season media underwriters Monroe Publishing, LLC. and Big Radio, with additional support from Michael and Shelley Muranyi.
