Lena mom loses home to fire
News Brief with BKG

LENA — Friends and family are raising money to help a Lena woman who lost her home in a house fire Monday, Feb. 25.

Kathleen Reed, a cake decorator at Sullivan’s Foods in Lena, lost everything in the fire but was able to rescue her late husband’s dog, Prince, from the wreckage.

The fire burned the house to the ground, and firefighters said the cause of the fire was electrical in nature, according to a news report from WTVO-TV.

To help their mother rebuild her life, Reed’s children are raising money via a GoFundMe campaign. The website for the fundraiser is gofundme.com/364azv-devastating-house-fire.

“Our mother stood helpless as she watched her whole life go up in flames. What was once a gathering place for the whole family is now a pile of ashes with no resemblance of her home,” her family wrote on the fundraiser website.

“She was still in her work uniform, the only clothing she has. She has no house, no furniture, no personal possessions, no toiletries and no clothes. We are asking for donations to help mom replace some of the items that were lost in the fire.”
