MONROE - Mark Mayer, Green County UW-Extension agriculture agent, will do a presentation on "Lawn and Turf Care" at the Green County Master Gardeners monthly meeting at 7 p.m. April 27 in the Green County Justice Center multipurpose rooms, located at 2841 6th St., Monroe.

Mayer has a vast knowledge of lawns and turf and will be answering the questions about lawn care. Mayer serves as the advisor to the Green County UW-Extension Master Gardeners Association and has been assisting area homeowners with their lawn care problems and questions for more than 30 years.

Questions answered will include how to make a lawn look greener and thicker, how to patch bare spots, what types of grass are best for a lawn, when is the correct time to apply fertilizer, how proper mowing and watering practices impact lawn appearance and how to control weeds and pests.

The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association was formed in Green County in 2004 to provide Master Gardeners with opportunities for professional development and community service.

Led by Marilyn Sandin-Ross, GCMGA president, the Green County Master Gardeners Association meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from February through October. Anyone interested in horticulture and gardening is welcome to join the association and one does not have to be a Master Gardener to be a member or to attend.
