BELLEVILLE - Belleville will host Lakefest 2013, a grass-roots celebration of the community's $4 million lake restoration, on Sunday, Sept. 1.

A triathlon begins at 7 a.m. and other programming runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Activities include free paddling adventures, a self-guided walk on the waterfront berm trail and cruising the Sugar River on a free river boat or pontoon ride. Those who attend the event can learn how the project was designed and the restoration plan for the islands.

Picnic food will be available for purchase.

Live reptiles will be at the Snakes Alive exhibit. There will be music all day by Briar Pickers and Kristy Larson. Children will have the opportunity to hear old-fashioned storytelling. Department of Natural Resources experts will be on hand to talk about the lake's fish and habitat.
