DARLINGTON - Lafayette County has seen a spate of burglaries this month, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
Six burglaries - five at businesses and the other at a residence - have been reported since July 1, Lt. Theresa Burgess of the department said in an email Thursday.
Burgess said three businesses reported being broken into July 2: Ruf's Farm Service and Brunkow Cheese Co-op, both in Darlington, and Lelle's Bar in Woodford.
On Tuesday, the Yellowstone Dairy Bar and Yellowstone Boat Rental in Blanchardville both reported being burglarized, said Burgess.
Burgess said the Town of Blanchard residence that was broken into was under construction and unoccupied.
According to the release, items taken in the burglaries include alcohol, cigarettes, petty cash, carpentry tools and perishable goods.
Burgess said the department suspects two or more of the incidents may be related.
"We are concentrating patrol efforts in this area as we do believe (some of the burglaries) are related," Burgess said.
The Darlington Police Department posted a message on its Facebook page Tuesday urging residents to keep the doors to their homes locked.
"If people want to steal your stuff, at least make them work for it. ... Burglars are looking for a quick score, almost always during the day while you're at work. A locked home is not quick and easy," the post read in part.
