DARLINGTON - The 160th annual Lafayette County Fair has brought in new shows and old favorites to entertain the crowds this week.

Additions include a fireworks show and an antique tractor pull.

Kari Ruf, a member of the fair staff, said the fireworks are a big feature after the T & C Rodeo on Wednesday evening. The night events will consist of "bull riding, barrel racing and mutton bustin'" before the sky is lit up above the fairgrounds.

The Dairyland Antique Tractor Pull was added to Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. Pullers will demonstrate their classic tractor's ability to make it way down the tracks. Ruf said the inclusion of the pull was considered after a high volume of requests.

"There were actually quite a few local guys interested in the antique pulling and since the fair is a focus on the city and county, we wanted to include that," Ruf said.

With the new event, the talent show was moved to 7 p.m. Friday. The show, in its seventh year, will be under the big tent. Ruf said the fair is still accepting entries and any interested, talented people should call the fair at (608) 776-4828 for more information.

The schedule has three other tractor pulls. Thursday evening will kickoff the competitions with a pull at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, there will be two pulls - the Lafayette County Pull at noon and the Badger State Tractor Pull set for 6 p.m. Also, a kiddie tractor pull in memory of Colin Barnes is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Ruf said Friday has a free gate entry. That evening will have wine judging and stock car racing. There will be Wenzel Amazements Carnival rides. Ruf emphasized wristband times for the rides, which will be from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a variety of pastimes, from animal shows, children's activities and shooting competitions to crashing cars, floral judging and racing.

"We have something going on every day," Ruf said. "And we really have something for everybody."
